I don't usually make political commentary and indeed, this is not political commentary This is fashion commentary.
I don't usually make that, either.
But I HAVE to ask: Has Michelle Obama never seen a picture if a black widow Spider?
And if she has, what in the name of God possessed her to wear THAT dress to her husband's speech tonight? Maybe I was the only one, but
for me; that dress really threw a damper on the spirit of the occasion
and put a nasty taste in my mouth. It completely distracted me from the real spirit of the event. It was just wrong on SO many levels. I can't find a photographic version that I can slot in here, but here is a link.
I am not a big fashionista, but after tonight, I am understanding the potential impact and symbolism of fashion so much more.
Michelle, what were you thinking?
Oh and and BTW; -in case you haven't figured this out: Whoever dressed you for the event is clearly a racist Republican and should be fired.
Sincerely,
One Sick Mother.
Ha! That's what I thought, too!
But what a speech, no? I loved it.

I guess I'm an oddball, I kinda like the dress & yes I can see it looks a bit black widow which means it might not be the best dress for the occasion. So my summary is nice dress, but wrong occasion for it.

Yanub,
It was an excellent speech -McCain's too actually (credit where it is due).
It was an excellent night, actually. I was glued to the telly with me knitting (I am such a fuddy-duddy!). We see history unfurl all the time, but we rarely know we are seeing it as it happens. I definitely felt last night that what I was watching would be taught in schools some day.
The last time I felt that was September 11, 2001, sitting in a glass high-rise on Times Square, watching my friends burn and it was NOT a positive feeling back then.
QS,
It was a nice dress and it looked good on her. But you are right, it was wrong for the occasion.
I was thinking (very morbidly, I admit) that with all the JFK comparisons and the the stuff that has been going on, why on Earth would she tempt Fate in the teeniest bit?
Goe forbid, should anything happen to her husband, she will be named "The Black Widow" in the media and pictures of her wearing that dress will be everywhere. Forever.
